Colleges at UWT

Costner Hall, Home to the Keith R. Costner College of Showing No Emotion
Academics at UWT are divided into different colleges to provide the maximum amount of attention to both the individual student and his or her degree path. When the university opened in 1978, it had only one college. Today, that number has more than quadrupled to over four. Reorganization as a result of the recent UWT "fiscal cliff" has meant streamlining offerings into a more efficient end product. As a result, some colleges with more instructors and administrators than students have been altered or merged, while some majors which have not had a graduate since the university's establishment have been eliminated.
As of Spring 2014, the colleges at UWT are:

Majors and Minors

The University of Western Topeka offers more majors and minors than can be listed on one webpage.
Most students are able to decide on a program of study from one of our options - however, UWT does not wish to constrain our students in any way and will work with you to design a major that suits your needs. Please see our Multiple Major Specialization Policy for details.
Students who are not prepared to select a major at the time of matriculation may elect to pursue the "Undeclared/Exploratory/I'm an indecisive person with no idea of what I want to do with my life" track in the College of Miscellaneous Studies. Please note that per university regulations, students taking this option must declare a major at least 48 hours prior to the graduation ceremony in which they plan to participate, or relinquish the right to walk [in the ceremony].
*While undergraduate students in Narwhal-related majors take all of their required classes (those with the NAR prefix) within the Institute for Narwhal Research, administratively, they are housed within the College of Miscellaneous Studies and retain all privileges afforded to students of that college.

The Live, In-Class Experience

100% of UWT classes are taught by a live human being; we do not offer online classes. As an institution committed to equal opportunity for all, we recognize that not everyone owns a computer (we will re-evaluate our position when that becomes the case).

Transfer Information
Some students who have attempted to obtain transfer credit for UWT coursework have found that it was not accepted. We believe this is due to our progressive teaching techniques which have not yet gained wide acceptance in traditional academia. In any case, please confirm with your home institution or intended transfer admissions office that coursework will be accepted before doing any.
