Finding racism and bigotry where it exists and where it doesn't
UWT is proud to be home to one of the country's only academic centers dedicated to finding intentional, unintentional, and nonexistent racism in rhetoric and society. This is a relatively new endeavor and while the page is being created, please read the quote below from our deputy interim director, James H. Dawes, GED:
"I think Topeka is the perfect place for a center like this because it's plausibly one of the most racist places imaginable; just look at the name of the town. Topeka. It's obviously a likely derogatory name created by white settlers to refer to the local Native American community, who didn't wear closed-toed shoes.
